A Goalie Development System Your Whole Program Can Use

Coach Utah partners with hockey organizations to build goalie development environments that work for goalies, for coaches, and for the families behind them.

No commitment required, just a conversation.

Most Teams Have a Goalie Development Gap. They Just Don’t See It Yet.

Most teams run organized, high-effort practices. But when you isolate the goalie position, a different pattern shows up.

Goalies are often developing inside a system that wasn’t built for them:

  • Goalies adapt to skater drills instead of honing their unique skills
  • Coaches may be unsure what to correct, often giving vague instructions
  • Feedback to goalies is inconsistent across teams and levels
  • Parents try to support their goalie without a clear framework

The good news? It’s a fixable problem. That’s exactly what Coach Utah is built to do.

What a Real Goalie Development System Looks Like

A Coach Utah partnership isn’t about giving tips or isolated sessions. It’s a goalie development system built into the fabric of your organization. It supports your goalies, equips your coaches, and aligns parents and individual training around a shared development philosophy.

  • Goalies know what they’re working on—and why
  • Coaches understand what to look for and how to respond
  • Practices integrate specific goalie skills into regular team drills
  • Communication stays consistent across coaches, parents, and players

Here’s what it looks like.

  • Coach Education

Equip your staff with the knowledge, language, and structure to coach goalies using a clear development strategy.

  • Parent Alignment

Turn parents into part of the development system, so what happens off the ice supports what’s built on it.

  • Goalie Development

Position-specific training built around how goalies actually move, think, and develop during both practices and games.

How We Work Together

Coach Utah offers two ways to partner, based on your organization’s needs:

Option 1: Single Clinic

A focused, standalone session for your coaching staff, your parents, or both. Ideal for organizations that want to introduce goalie development concepts and see the Coach Utah approach in action before committing to a longer partnership.

  • Coach education clinic: tools and language for working with goalies
  • Parent education session: how to support your goalie at home and on the way home
  • Printed resources included for coaches and parents

Option 2: Ongoing Partnership

A sustained goalie development system embedded into your organization’s season. Ongoing partnerships include regular goalie development sessions, coach support, and parent alignment. We’ll customize tools and services needed to build the kind of environment where goalies actually thrive.

  • Recurring on-ice goalie development sessions
  • Continued coach education and support
  • Parent resources and communication frameworks
  • Adapted to your program’s schedule, age groups, and goals

No commitment required—tell us about your organization and we’ll follow up.

Why Coach Utah?

Our goalie development system isn’t theory. It’s built from Coach Utah’s own experience — as a goalie who grew up without position-specific coaching, as a junior hockey player who went looking for better development, and as a coach who sees the same gaps in program after program.

That experience shapes everything Coach Utah does. The clinics, the language, the parent resources, the on-ice sessions. All of it comes from a real understanding of what goalies need, what coaches can realistically deliver, and what parents need to know.

Coach Utah Details and Common Questions

Do you work with organizations outside of Utah?

Yes. While Coach Utah is based in Utah, partnerships with out-of-state organizations are available. Coach education sessions can be delivered virtually, and on-ice clinics can be arranged with travel costs covered by the organization.

What age groups do you work with?

Coach Utah works with youth hockey organizations across all competitive age levels — from 8U through 18U and Junior programs. Development approaches are tailored to the age and experience level of each group.

Do our coaches need goalie experience?

Not at all — coaches without goalie experience are exactly who this is designed for. The entire Coach Utah approach is built around giving non-goalie coaches the tools they need to support their goalies effectively.

What if we already have a goalie coach?

A Coach Utah partnership complements your existing goalie coach, it doesn’t replace them. We’ll work with your goalie staff to develop coach education, training strategies, and parent alignment components to fit your needs.
