It’s Not a Coaching Problem. It’s a System Problem.

Most hockey teams aren’t ignoring their goalies—they just don’t have a plan to develop them.

Practices are built for skaters. Coaches are trained to run team systems.

So goalies get worked into whatever’s already planned.

That leads to predictable patterns:

  • Warmups that burn out goalies before practice starts
  • Drills that create shots—but not real development
  • Coaches unsure what to look for or correct
  • No clear progression from week to week

The result isn’t bad coaching.

It’s a missing system.

Coach Utah fills that gap with a structured approach to developing the position—inside the way teams already operate.

Why Coach Utah?

Our goalie development system isn’t theory. It’s built from Coach Utah’s own experience — as a goalie who grew up without position-specific coaching, as a junior hockey player who went looking for better development, and as a coach who sees the same gaps in program after program.

That experience shapes everything Coach Utah does. The clinics, the language, the parent resources, the on-ice sessions. All of it comes from a real understanding of what goalies need, what coaches can realistically deliver, and what parents need to know.
